Learner
I am usually signed up for one class or another. Right now I am trying to learn Spanish. My formal academic degrees include a bachelor’s from Smith College and a master’s from the University of Wisconsin, both in French language, literature, and culture. Most recently, I studied illustration at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, part of Tufts University, in Boston.
Writer
My writing material comes from my upbringing in a Catholic, French-Canadian family, youth in a small Massachusetts manufacturing (no more) town, studies of French, work in academia, and current life in Mexico. Some articles are funny. Some are sad. I hope you find in them valuable lessons.
Artist
“You’ll starve” my family said when I admitted to wanting to be a artist. Later (much later), I discovered they were wrong. I’ve always been involved in one form of art and design or another, and thanks to recent art classes, I joyfully illustrate my own writing. I’ve never starved. Or cut off my ear. (I did cut off the tip of my finger while making strawberry margaritas at a party, but that was an accident.)
Teacher
I’ve taught writing and/or web design at the Massachusetts School of Law, Northeastern University, and the University of Massachusetts (Urban Scholar Program).
Activist
I love justice. I love truth. I love such Christian values as charity, mercy, and kindness. And I especially love the foundational values of the United States. I do all I can to promote these values through writing, art, and walking in the streets with correctly spelled and cleverly illustrated signs.
Episcopalian
Not all Christians judge and try to control their neighbors. Let those without sin cast the stones.Through marriage, I discovered the Episcopal Church, where it’s easy for former Catholics to feel at home. I frequently write and deliver sermons.
